Extra Life – led by guitarist/composer/vocalist Charlie Looker – returned to Brighton on 22 June 2025 for a live show at the Prince Albert.

A fusion of aggressive math‑rock, dark dramatic pop, modern classical, and ancient liturgical tones, the band's sound bridges avant‑garde art music and DIY post‑punk sensibilities.

Formed in 2007 and active until 2012, Extra Life released four influential records and toured extensively across the US and Europe, gracing festivals like Primavera Sound and sharing line‑ups with artists such as Sonic Youth and Chelsea Wolfe. After a hiatus, Looker revived the project in 2021, releasing Secular Works Vol. 2 (2022) and The Sacred Vowel (2024) on his own label, Last Things Records.

The 2025 line-up features Toby Driver (Kayo Dot), Timba Harris (Secret Chiefs 3, Ultraphauna), and Cameron Wisch (Sheer Mag, Dust Star), each contributing to a sound as powerful as it is unpredictable.

Extra Life’s music is anchored by Looker’s distinctive melismatic vocals—part Gregorian chant, part post‑punk urgency—and underpinned by rhythmically complex compositions reminiscent of math‑rock’s most daring innovators. Their return is both a nod to their legacy and a fresh, vital statement in experimental music today.
